Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program LIHEAP
Not sure how you’ll afford to pay for your home heating oil? Don’t worry, there is help! The Delaware Energy Assistance Program contracts with Catholic Charities to help Delaware residents living on low income, as well as those who are experiencing an emergency or crisis and are unable to pay their heating or energy bills. This program is funded by the US Dept of Health & Human Services, through LIHEAP. This assistance is provided in the form of a cash grant, which does not have to be repaid. Each grant varies in amount based on income and household size. When you apply with Catholic Charities, be sure to name us as your fuel supplier and once approved, they will send us your grant directly so we can deliver heating oil to you. Your account number can be found on past receipt tickets, or just give us a call and we can provide you with it.
Who is eligible?
Families and individuals who need assistance paying for home energy and heating can apply whether you rent or own. You must meet the income requirements as provided by Catholic Charities HERE.
If you are without heat or experiencing a heating emergency, due to the effects of COVID-19, you may be eligible for a Crisis Grant through the Catholic Charities special public health State of Emergency CRISIS benefit . Again, this is a grant and doesn’t need to be repaid. If you have already applied for LIHEAP in the 19/20 season, you do not need to reapply for this benefit. Eligibility income limits for this Crisis Grant is slightly higher and can be found on the bottom half of the requirements HERE.
